Daytona 24 Hours, 1998
My first trip to the 24 Hours of Daytona. I tagged along with Grey Cliff Racing and European Performance Engineering (epe) of Natick, Mass. We had a Porsche 911 GT3 RS that ran very well for most of the race and finished 6th in class and 13th overall. The winner was Gianpiero Moretti, founder of the famous MOMO Corse brand of automotive products. Moretti had tried for nearly 20 years to win and finally made it happen. He let me poke around his garage, take pictures, and chatted with me for a bit. He died on January 14, 2012 - two weeks before the 50th Daytona 24 Hour race.
