New gasket and cleaning and the pump is working as it should.
This is the condition of the fuel pump under the glass bowl cover. Rust and the remains of the cork gasket. It looks like rust but is actually the brownish-orange cork gasket. I think the pump itself is aluminum or ceramic so nothing to rust. The cork gasket failed and allowed air in, which reduced our fuel pressure and probably sent debris everywhere. The old gasket was easy to clean with a sharp pick and we were able to get a smooth surface.
Nasty oil! Bad for appearances but good for keeping corrosion away!
